Prayer that Changes Us

Most of us pray because we want something to change: circumstances, health, relationships, finances. Sometimes, prayer does move mountains. But often, the greatest change happens in us.

The Shaping of the Soul

When we pray, our will begins to bend toward God’s will. Pride is softened. Fear loosens its grip. Hope rises where despair once lived.

Think of Moses. Each time he prayed on the mountain, his face shone. Prayer left a mark. Or think of Mary, who treasured and pondered God’s words in her heart. Prayer made her receptive to God’s work.

Transformation Through Prayer

Prayer is not just asking. It is becoming. Every time you kneel, you are clay in the Potter’s hands. He reshapes you, often in ways you don’t notice until much later.

Sometimes the answer is not that God changes our problem, but that He changes our heart toward it. That shift — from anxiety to peace, from anger to forgiveness — is itself a miracle.
